No More War Winter Work-Camp 2011
No More War Work-camp started on 28th December, 2011 and went on until 11th January, 2012 in Muthur.
Details of the work-camp
Study Theme: NO MORE WAR , post conflict peace making and awareness about Environmental protection.
Location: Muthur in Trincomalee district in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka.
Description: Muthur is situated in the Trincomalee district in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. The majority of the population exist onfishing while doing agriculture as their second income source. All the three ethnic communities - Tamil, Sinhala and Muslims are living in equal proportions in this district. As a village affected by nearly 30 years brutal war,Tsunami in 2004 and flood s in 2011 SCI Sl has been doing several projects in this area from 2004. The post conflict peace making project conducted in this area in 2010 with the financial support of SCI Italy was very successful. During 2011 we had 2 workcamps in this area to support the people who were victims of the recent floods. As SCI Sri Lanka has been working with them for several years we have creqted a good atmosphere for our No More War Campaign and post conflict peace promotion.
Types of Work: Work included (1) renewing and repairing the projected Peace center with the help of local people and the staff of 3CD. (2) Meanwhile, the volunteers engaged in repairing and painting the hospital in Muthur with the help of villagers if time permits.
